I am very impressed and edified by this book. For the past fifteen years, I have been collecting Rosary meditation books, and this is one of the best I’ve read. This book combines a meditative approach to the Rosary based on Scripture and the doctrines of the Saints, with a focus on the ascetic life that is the foundation and fruit of praying the Rosary. I was particularly gladdened with the copious citations from Cornelius a Lapide’s Great Commentary. I wholeheartedly believe that the best way for the faithful to engage with the Scriptures is through the Rosary, so that the unfathomable depths of divine Revelation may be plumbed under the tutelage of the Mother of God, who is our own Mother and advocate. I love the paintings in the book and also the brief descriptions in the beginning as to how to approach the mental prayer (step-by-step guidance). These were very helpful tips. I also love those extra meditations towards the end of the book on many different virtues. This is a wonderful book for helping to meditate upon the mysteries of the Holy Rosary, and can be used in a multitude of ways. When I am tired, I simply gaze at the artwork related to the intended mystery. Other times I can read a line and use that for the entire mystery, or continue on with other text related to the mystery.
Another novel option I have never found in any other book is to pray the rosary based upon a virtue…you can say an entire rosary just contemplating humility as expressed in the mystery. Very useful for trying to encourage the acquiring of a virtue you may be lacking.
I am also pleased that you can learn how to say the rosary in Latin…all necessary prayers at your fingertips.
